I stumbled into this one a little early and came back later to finish the job. He gave me more trouble that I was expecting considering that he's only half of the O&S fight that I've beaten on my first try with relative ease on my more recent playthroughs of DS1, but it was still another relatively easy fight. I had previously given up on heides tower because the enemies were tough enough (at least in terms of taking many hits) that I assumed it was a higher level location, but dragonrider proved me wrong. Finally a first-try boss win, and it felt earned, although of course having fought them in DS1 many times I had some advance knowledge of their moveset.Īnother easy one, besides taking a lot of hits he barely felt like a boss. So anyone doing spears should keep on trucking.Īfter the ruin sentinels and a night of sleep, the gargoyles was tense but fun (if rather uninspired and overlong). Probably the most disheartening fight of the game for me, especially since I'd read online that spears weren't particularly viable - while felt fairly true at this point, but towards the end I felt fine. Eventually she died while getting one of them low enough that I could finish them off, and then finish the last one. I tries jumping down and watching her die, and staying up and watching us both die. The biggest annoyance was that, while the NPC did great damage and we made a great team in theory, she wouldn't drop down off the platform after the first one went down, leaving us stuck on a tiny platform fighting the pair. It was super late and no one was around to help, so I crushed effigy after effigy until I had just 2 left before my NPC ally and I brought them down. that meant I found the ruin sentinels much earlier than I wished I had. After a few tries I went human and got someone who knew what it was doing to shoot it with arrows while I played bait. Similar deal, between having a less-than-100%-physical shield (my first purchase of every DS1 character) and low-ish stamina with low stability, it was a constant struggle not to stamina break. That was sort of a running theme for most of the game since I was used to my trusty +5 silver knight shield from DS1 that could take a hit like a champ, whereas I played the entirety of DS2 with a shield that felt inferior to the starting knight shield from DS1. I felt pretty sluggish changing to the newer game, and the punishing running-out-of-stamina-while-blocking animation got me stunlocked frequently. I had enough of that crap in TotG).įunnest boss: throne defender and throne watcher I haven't done the DLC but I beat all the optional bosses (except darklurker because it seemed like too much trouble to clear the abyss. Did the same for DS2 and started to regret not having gone with strength-scaling lances or the gargoyle bident toward the end, since shield selection is a bit crap unless you sink a ton of points into strength.Īnyway, here were my experiences with the DS2 bosses, in the order I beat them. Range, attacking while blocking, speed, pathetic damage.everything I love in a weapon. The first playthrough of DS1 got a black knight sword and got through most of the game with it, but didn't like the moveset so I restarted with a dex spear build and fell in love. Just finished both dark souls games in the span of a few weeks, and felt compelled to document my experiences so that everyone can laugh at what a scrub I am.
EDIT: full rundown on page 3 with my second character.
